Submitting A Story Quick Access: Rules How To Rate Your Story How To Submit Your Story Emailing Your Story Cover Art Acceptance Important Note: Stories do not need to be faith-based. (Though stories that are will certainly be welcomed!) Fan fiction with no direct or indirect reference to God, the Lord Jesus, miracles, or the Christian faith, actually make up the majority of this archive. :) Any fic submitted only needs to follow the rules below to be considered for posting. Rules: Please read carefully before submitting a story. I prayed a lot about what to put here, and I’m sure there will be someone out there who will look at all these rules, and ask, “Is she crazy?!” Lol, maybe, but this site is meant to first and foremost to glorify the Lord, and to be a place where people can come to enjoy great stories without having to worry about what’s in them. So, without further ado, *clears throat* here are the rules: 1. Do not use the Lord’s name, or Christ’s name, in vain. It’s become so common, a lot of people don’t think anything of it, but it is one of the ten commandments, and it’s a rule that is here to stay. :) 2. All fics have to be rated PG-13 and below. Please look over the ratings listed below to decide how to rate your fic. The system here might be a little different. :) 3. Fics can’t contain swearing of any kind. (If you feel you can’t portray a character without it, please see this article for ideas. :) ) 4. Don’t include anything sexually suggestive in your fic. The Lord says that sex outside of marriage is wrong, so please make sure your characters follow those standards, too. If the characters are married, please do not allow any scenes to go too far. 5. Your fic can’t contain slash of any kind. (If you are unsure what slash is, please see this page for a list of fan fiction terms. :) ) 6. No suggestive, crude, or derogatory humor. (Clean humor is more than welcome though! :) ) 7. Please do not write fics about an actual person or actor. (The only exceptions to this would be Biblical figures, like Abraham or Paul, historical figures, like Joan of Ark or George Washington, or writing about your own testimony.) Please know, this isn’t meant to be a children’s website, with only stories that are easy to read. Stories that are darker, with more serious or intense content, such as fics that include death, suffering, or thoughts of suicide or murder, ect., are also welcome. But they have to follow the rules above, and the moderator will have final say on every fic submitted. How To Rate Your Story: These definitions, while based on standard the standard US rating system, are specifically for NOTW, and are probably more restrictive than other rating systems. :) G - A story suitable for all audiences, with little to no violence, mild action, nothing suggestive, and no dark subject matter. PG - A story suitable for nearly all audiences, with some violence, action, and possibly dark subject matter. PG-13 - A story suitable for most audiences, with violence, action, and some dark subject matter. How To Submit Your Story: There are two ways to submit a fic to Not Of This World. :) One, is to submit a link for your story, rather than submitting the story as a file. If accepted, the story will then be posted in the stories index, using the link you provided. Many fan fiction writers already have their own websites, or post their fics in several different places. If you're one of those fan fiction writers, this might be a good option for you. :) Or two, you can submit your story as a file, and then it will be posted directly to the website. :) Important note: Fanfiction.net is the one site that I ask you not send links to it. It's a wonderful site, but it has sometimes been known to cause interference. If fanfiction.net is the only site your work is posted on, please send your fic as a file, so that it can be posted directly to NOTW. See below for instructions. :) ___________________________________________________________ If submitting a link to your story: 1. Make sure that the website you are linking to doesn't lead to any adult or inappropriate content. 2. Email the story with the information listed in the Emailing Your Story section below. ___________________________________________________________ If submitting your story as a file: 1. Please send it as a Works document (*.wps) or an HTML file. You may also paste the text into the email itself. Please DO NOT send a Word document. My computer has Works as its main word-processing program. If you send it as a Word doc, I'll be able to read it, but I won't be able to post it, and I'll have to ask you to send it again in a different format. 2. If you are familiar with HTML code, it would be appreciated if you could add the coding to your story before you submit it. But if you aren't familiar with it, please don't worry and don't hesitate to send your fics. It has no bearing on whether or not your fic will be accepted. :) 3. Email the story with the information listed in the Emailing Your Story section below. Emailing Your Story: Please include all of the following information about your story when emailing it to NOTW: Title: Your penname/screenname: Fandom: Rating: Genre: (ex: Angst, Humor, Christian, ect.) Type: (ex: Vignette, Multi-chapter) Status: (Complete, WIP) Number of Chapters: Main Character(s): Secondary Character(s): Pairing(s): (if your fic doesn't contain a pairing, please list as "None") Spoilers: (please include even if the fandom isn't ongoing) Summary: Anything that doesn't apply to your fic, list as N/A, and check this page for a list of fan fiction terminology if you weren't sure of something mentioned above. :) If this is the first time you have submitted a story to NOTW: You can, if you'd like to, include with your story submission one or two short paragraphs about yourself, your stories, your faith in Christ, or anything else you want to say. It will then be posted with your bio on the Authors Index. :) If you choose not to include a comment, you are always welcome to submit one later. (Note: Site rules still apply, and if any inappropriate or suggestive author's comments are received, they will not be included with your bio, and you will not be allowed to post any further comments in the future.) Email your story or story link to storysubmissions@notwfanfic.com. Please make sure it is labeled as “Story Submission”. :) Cover Art: Cover Art isn't necessary, but it's more than welcome! :) Unfortunately, we don't have room to upload many graphics directly to the site. But, if you have cover art for your fic and it isn't already posted with the story on a website of your own, please upload it to an image hosting website like Imageshack or Photobucket, then send the link along with your story. :) Any cover art should follow the same rules as your story, with no adult, suggestive, or graphic images, and no swearing in the text. If the cover art is accepted along with your fic, a link to it will be posted with the story so that your readers can still see it. :) Acceptance: I will read through it, and email you as soon as possible to let you know if it’s been accepted. If the story is not accepted, you will be given the reason why. You are more than welcome to resubmit it again later. Your story will be posted on the site within a week of acceptance, and listed in the fandom index and on the homepage in the "Fan Fiction Updates" section. If for some reason I am unable to meet that deadline, I will do my best to email you and let you know about the delay. If this is the first fic you have submitted to NOTW, you will also be mentioned in the "What's New" section of the homepage, and listed as "Newest Author" in the "Site Stats." Your profile will also be added to the Authors Index. Any reviews you receive once the story is posted will be screened by the mod, and then forwarded to you.
