Search Help There are two ways to search for fics on NOTW. 1. You can use the search engine. 2. Or, you can search by author. Important notes: 1. The search engine searches only the fan fiction indexes. If you are searching for information about the site itself, please see the FAQ page. 2. The examples below (buttons and text fields) are not active, and because of that, you can't access the search engine from this page. To search for fan fiction on NOTW, please use the navigation bars on the fan fiction indexes themselves. Use The Search Engine The search engine is located on the left side of the navigation bar at the top of each fandom index. To enter a search term, type it into the text field: When you click you will be taken to a page listing all the fics on NOTW which match the term you entered. All the information about that fic will be included in the search results: Fandom: (A link to the fandom index will be here.) Title: (A link to the story itself will be here.) Author: Rating: Genre: Type: Status: Chapters: Main character(s): Secondary character(s): Pairing(s): Spoilers: Summary: Notes: 1. Any fic that has a title marked with an asterisk ( * ) is an offsite link for the story. 2. In the search results, clicking on a story’s title will take you to the story itself. Clicking on the fandom link will take you to that fandom index. Search By Author This is a separate function from the search engine. Each fandom index is divided by author, so that the stories by an author for that fandom are listed together. The sections are marked at the beginning with a nametag: IAmAnAuthor The "Chose An Author" option is located on the right side of the navigation bar at the top of each fandom index. If you click on the drop down menu, you will see a list of all the authors who write for that fandom: --> Choose an Author <-- IAmAnAuthor 1 IAmAnAuthor 2 IAmAnAuthor 3 IAmAnAuthor 4 When you select an author’s name and click the page will automatically scroll down to their section of that fandom index. Note: Because that author may write for more than one fandom, the "Chose An Author" option may not give you a full list of all of their fics. If you want to know which fandoms they write for, you can go to the Author’s Index to see a list of their fandoms and the numbers of stories they’ve written for each category. To see a full list of an author’s fics: Type their author’s name into the search engine, and every story they have archived on NOTW will appear in the search results. Search Issues If you have any problems with the search engine or searching by author, please let the mod know as soon as possible. Please include this information in the email: 1. Describe the problem in as much detail as you can. 2. List the page the problem occurred on. 3. What type of browser do you have? (Internet Explorer, Firefox, ect.)
